LASER HAIR REMOVAL
Allure Cosmetic Medical Center has several state-of-the art lasers for hair removal that are safe and effective for all skin types including fair, tanned, and dark skin. Laser Hair Removal has been performed at our facility since we opened in 2004. Since then, several franchise hair removal clinics and other laser centers have opened with “technicians” often performing their laser hair removal treatments. However, at Allure Cosmetic Medical Center, all laser hair removal treatments are performed by a licensed medical professional such as a physician or advanced registered nurse practitioner. This way we ensure our clients receive the highest quality laser care, for optimum results. We are proud to have many happy and satisfied clients. At Allure, we have no high pressure sales tactics or lengthy seminars. We simply communicate the facts about treatment in an open and honest manner, giving you the information you need to make a quality choice for care.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
“Laser Hair Removal” is a collective term for the utilization of light-based technologies such as laser and intense pulsed light for the purpose of permanent hair reduction. Hair removal lasers selectively deliver laser light to dark hairs. This light causes the dark hairs to become heated; this heat travels down the hair shaft into the hair follicle and disrupts the hair follicle, preventing future hair growth. Since gray/white, blonde and red hairs have little or no dark melanin pigment; laser hair removal is not considered effective in treating these hair colors.

What areas can I treat?
Both men and women seek laser hair removal services to have unwanted hair removed. Laser hair removal is commonly done on: lip, chin, underarm, bikini line, ear lobe, shoulders, back, abdomen, buttocks, pubic area, face, neck, chest, cleavage, legs, toes, arms and hands.

Are there any side effects?

Common side effects seen after laser hair removal treatments include temporary discomfort, redness, and swelling in the treatment area; loss of freckles or lightening of moles in the treatment area; and temporary skin lightening or darkening in the treatment area in some tanned or darker skin types. Other possible side effects rarely or never experienced by our patients are: blistering, herpes simplex flare-ups, bacterial infections, darkening or lightening of tattoos, and permanent skin pigment change or scarring.

Laser Hair Removal Results

Results depend upon many factors including: areas of the body treated, hair color, hair thickness, hair quantity, skin color, pain tolerance, laser type, and provider expertise. Laser hair removal works best in the bikini area, legs, and underarms; as compared to the face, back, and scalp which may take longer to respond. Traditionally, Laser hair removal works best on fair skinned individuals with dark coarse hair. However, individuals with darker skin, or brown hairs, or thinner hairs can also benefit.

Typically, a series of 6 to 8 laser hair removal treatments will remove 80% or more hairs in a treatment area on a fair skinned client with dark thick hairs. The more pigment in the skin, the more the laser light will be absorbed by the skin as opposed to the hairs. Consequently, the darker the skin, the more the laser light intensity must be decreased in order to protect the skin. Less laser power delivered usually results in a relatively lower percentage of hair removal results per treatment. However, delivering more treatments usually will deliver improved overall results. The hair that re-grows tends to be lighter and finer in texture.

Laser hair removal treatments are also effective treatment for Pseudofolliculitis

Barbae, commonly called “ingrown hairs” or "razor bumps”. See Photo Gallery for more results.

Consultation

During your laser hair removal consultation, we will review your medical history and examine the area of hair you want treated. Based on your medical history and exam, we will customize your laser hair removal treatment regimen based on your individual needs, to achieve optimum results. Our experienced staff will discuss the process, post treatment care, and expected outcome.

Pretreatment Instructions for Laser Hair Removal

Before treatment, patients are advised to avoid tanning and sunless tanners. Broad-spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreens with SPF 30 or higher should be used. No plucking, waxing, or electrolysis should be done; and depilatory creams should be avoided. The site to be treated may be shaved one to two days prior to laser treatment. A prophylactic (protective) oral antiviral medication may be started the day prior to treatment to suppress the possibility of developing a herpes simplex flare-up in the treatment area in susceptible patients.

During & After Laser Hair Removal Treatment

Before treatment, the area should be cleansed free of any skincare products including creams, sunscreen, and make-up. During the treatment, laser goggles are worn to prevent laser light from penetrating into the eyes. The laser pulses feel like the snapping of a rubber band against the skin. Our physician takes extra steps to ensure patients are being safely treated and pain is minimized. Ideally, the immediate response to the laser treatment is vaporization of the hair shaft. Slight swelling and redness around the hair follicles appear within a few minutes. Patients are instructed to avoid sun-exposure and to use a broad-spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with SPF 30 after the laser treatments. Cosmetics may be applied to the treated skin after laser hair removal.

Laser Hair Removal in Florida

As with any cosmetic procedure, ask your potential provider questions regarding their experience and training. The Florida Board of Medicine considers performing laser hair removal the practice of medicine and thus should be performed by a licensed physician, licensed physician assistant, licensed nurse practitioner, or a licensed Electrologist certified in laser hair removal, under a physician’s supervision. At Allure, you will always have a properly trained and licensed health professional performing your laser hair removal treatments.
